Incognita (officially The People's Democratic Republic of Terra Incognita) is a country located somewhere in the Pacific comprising of one major landmass and numerous smaller islands surrounding it. Its name translates roughly as meaning "The Unknown Land", mainly because its indigenous population kept no written records and most of the records of the colonising population afterwards were destroyed through constant civil war.

The country's lengthy and often highly explosive past has been shaped by that greatest of human endeavours, conflict. And not just minor scuffles between brothers, families, or clans - Incognita has historically erupted into civil war over things ranging from the adoption of a Communist Manifesto as part of the country's official constitution to whether garbage collection should be on Tuesday or Wednesday nights. Things have calmed down in recent years when a rogue sect of Militant Buddhists invaded the country in 1973 and (through force of arms) imposed peace upon the nation, a situation that mostly endures to this day.

This theocracy has largely withdrawn to the background these days, but not before establishing an actual government to deal with the day-to-day problems of ensuring the country doesn't actually self-destruct and cleaning up any 'messes' that have occurred, generally when the former duty has not been properly achieved. As time has progressed, the need for these clean-up crews has lessened, results which experts point to as proof that Incognita is becoming a more peaceful place.

They are wrong.

Incognita’s current peace and prosperity is due not only to its multicultural and highly tolerant nature (prejudice has no place in a land where people will fight at the drop of a hat) but thanks to the multitude of corporations that have invested in Incognita. The country’s happy-go-lucky attitude towards such things as ‘taxation’ or ‘standards of conduct’ have allowed a plethora of different organizations to take up residence within Incognitan borders. And many of them have begun to create or develop what is commonly known as ‘miracle technology’, ranging from giant robots to medical recuperation chambers to nanotech augmentation.

Recently, however, an escalating arms race of technological development has begun to grip the nation. It has become clear that all the developers of the ‘miracle tech’ were all either subsidiaries or fronts for the two major mega-corporations of the Island: PowerTech Industries and Pax Futuristics. Two corporate giants that absolutely do not appreciate healthy competition.

And now... now Incognita is immersed in the depths of a war. A secret war, an invisible war of espionage and sabotage. But the tone of this conflict is shifting. What was once silent and stealthy is now brutal, and overt. The island once again stands poised on the brink of war.
